Captain Wil Rogers, director of large boat sales, leads us through the Boston Whaler 50th Anniversary Edition 420 Outrage.

To celebrate the 50th birthday of the Boston Whaler’s original Outrage fishing boat, the company debuted Thursday with the 420 Outrage Anniversary Edition at Chelsea Piers Marina in New York City. The 42-plus-footer has updated styling, the latest in technology and a range of great options.

The original Outrage, introduced in 1971 and now a collector’s icon, then provided advanced fishing features, but the new flagship 420 shows 50 years of innovation.

“The new 420 Outrage is a pure expression of boat capability,” said Boston Whaler President Nick Stickler. “For sailors looking for a higher level of luxury, comfort and performance, it’s on a completely separate aircraft.”

Most notable at first glance: This edition contains three of Mercury’s new 600 hp V12 FourStroke Verados. And with a fuel capacity of 700 gallons, the 420 offers a comprehensive range of travel and accommodation.

The Skyhook / Autopilot keypad at the helm delivers effortless station holding, and the Seakeeper gyro stabilizer evens out any boat roll. Combined with a black hardtop frame package, upgraded bolsters and seating, quality interior finish and teak accents, the 420 has a presence. It also knows how to fish.

The 420 has a luxuriously sloping post / lure prep center, an insulated 40-gallon housing well, several rod holders, a fresh water sink, tool storage drawers and a solid countertop. An additional 24-gallon well is located in the port side port corner.

Whaler will hold a series of kickoff events – Homecoming Tour – which will stop at locations along the east coast from now until October. A special reunion is set for the 10th-12th. September in Quincy, Massachusetts, where the first Outrage is still in use by the Marine Biological Laboratory. The Anniversary Edition vessel can also be seen at Newport, Annapolis and Fort Lauderdale boat shows.
